Shenanigans Of Nairaland Romance And Other Lies They Tell Themselves

“We lie to ourselves all the time, especially in relationships.
For instance, a usually sensible and honest woman finds herself in a really bad situation with a guy. She flails around for a rational explanation of her abhorrent behaviour. Finding none, she grasps at the “love straw” even as she knows that the guy’s I’m-deeply-in-love-with-you is a classic scam since he’s pathologically incapable of such emotions. She chooses to believe the lie, because it assuages her guilt and forecloses an introspection of her seemingly perfect life. Lies are bad in every situation, but the worst kind, obviously, is the lie we tell ourselves. ”

How and when do you lie to yourself?
When you choose to pretend, posing and posturing with shallow or totally false airs and graces, because you are either immature or insecure socially, emotionally or intellectually.

The most common place to lie now is on the internet where you can hide behind a username and do as you wish since the majority of your fellow legions hiding behind usernames are ignorant of who you are and what you really do in real life offline.

From Nairaland to Facebook, Nigerians have become notorious for their fake profiles and dubious characteristics.

Is it not dumb and silly for anyone to post the "Most Beautiful Girl on Nairaland Romance Board" when you have never seen or met any of these so called pretty faces in real life?
When they may be diminutive short girls or even used fake photographs like many of them do when sending numerous romance scam e-mails?
That pretty face may have ugly legs with stretch marks!
Or she is even very dirty and unhygienic like those who still wear the same underwear twice before washing it.
The guys who want to also fool themselves by voting for these “ghosts” online could be their partners in romance scams.

I understand the insecurities of majority of Nigerians at home and abroad, because of their personal failures and shortcomings and their frustrations. So, they have to resort to many devices to hide their vices online to console themselves.

Majority of them have little or nothing to prove their worth in their disciplines.
I mean, whatever abilities you have academically, professionally and intellectually, prove your worth to the collective wealth of humanity.

Nigeria is poor, because majority of Nigerians have failed to be productive and are mere consumers of the wealth produced by others at home and abroad.

A Chinese student recently cloned an iPad to impress his girlfriend. But a Nigerian guy would have scammed or stolen to buy an iPad to impress his equally dubious Nigerian girlfriend.

Do you know that Nigerian guys and girls even steal used underwear?!
Well, since majority of them still buy used underwear and bras on the street, they might as well steal the ones they know who have been wearing them on and off campus.
The horrifying thought of dating a girl and a guy who is probably wearing a dirty underwear or the one used by another person is enough to make you cringe.

I know many Nigerians who do not bathe after Being Intimate and still want to shake your hands or serve you food!
Of course, majority of them do not even wash their hands after using the toilet and use that same dirty hands to come online and post the trivia of their romantic shenanigans.

Romance starts from your personal habits and tastes!
If you have bad habit and taste, you are not ROMANTIC!

Those who don't read are not ROMANTIC!

The following is the fundamental aspect of the definition of romance from the Wikipedia.

1. The debate over an exact definition of love may be found in literature as well as in the works of psychologists, philosophers, biochemists and other professionals and specialists. Romantic love is a relative term, but generally accepted as a definition that distinguishes moments and situations within interpersonal relationships to an individual as contributing to a significant relationship connection.

2. The addition of drama to relationships of love.

In relationships

During the initial stages of a romantic relationship, there is more often more emphasis on emotions—especially those of love, intimacy, compassion, appreciation, and affinity—rather than physical intimacy.

Within an established relationship, romantic love can be defined as a freeing or optimizing of intimacy in a particularly luxurious manner (or the opposite as in the "natural"), or perhaps in greater spirituality, irony, or peril to the relationship.

In culture, arranged marriages and betrothals are customs that may conflict with romance due to the nature of the arrangement. It is possible, however, that romance and love can exist between the partners in an arranged marriage.

Historical definition

Historians believe that the actual English word "romance" developed from a vernacular dialect within the French language meaning "verse narrative"—referring to the style of speech, writing, and artistic talents within elite classes. The word was originally an adverb of the Latin origin "Romanicus," meaning "of the Roman style." The connecting notion is that European medieval vernacular tales were usually about chivalric adventure, not combining the idea of love until late into the seventeenth century.

The word "romance" has also developed with other meanings in other languages such as the early nineteenth century Spanish and Italian definitions of "adventurous" and "passionate", sometimes combining the idea of "love affair" or "idealistic quality."

The lack of intellectual appreciation of literature, good music, social etiquette and other indispensable values and virtues of a civilized society is responsible for the general ignorance exhibited by majority of Nigerians who prefer their unromantic life of philistinism and hypocrisy and abuse intellectualism. And they have become more self-destructive over the years since they have lost the appreciation the dignity of life without which a society would be corrupt and left in rot as Nigeria is today.
